Keep Moving Forward

May 14, 2020

Hello, FW20, 2020.
You look nothing like our projections for this year.

I saw these four footbridges on my walk the other evening, and it occurred to me:

Sometimes it’s more important to keep moving than to have access to your favorite bridge.

I took their pictures to help solidify this metaphor as a reminder.  It’s vital that I keep moving forward and if I need to use a couple of these bridges while I build new ones to my preferred future, I will.  I smiled at the bridge I’d never choose, “If something’s chasing me and it has teeth and a temper, I’ll even give you a try!”

My angst diminishes when I dwell on how to move forward rather than on what I lost earlier this year. I’m still creating, still teaching, speaking, always calling people to better methods and higher quality. That hasn’t changed. Nor will it. Acknowledging new givens introduced to the equation in March and April, I’m developing new ways of delivering my products and services.

In the words of R. Buckminster (Bucky) Fuller,

“Don’t fight forces, use them.”

It’s a fluid situation, to be sure, and I’ve details to ink in, but I just looked 2020 in the eye and said,
“You’re going to wish you’d never pushed me!”
